Half way through the season and I’ve gotten into my first artisan market!
Cue panic.
My first season as a flower farmer has not been overly dramatic, no major hiccups (yet), but it has had it’s challenges. One of which was the hail storm last Tuesday night that sadly decapitated 80% of the blooms in the garden. The key word here though, is blooms; for the most part, the plants themselves managed okay-ish. There are a lot of buds out there that will soon be in full bloom, so all is not lost. The timing could have been a bit better though since that first market I mentioned is taking place this Saturday, August 22.
I’ve got a space at the Okotoks Summer Round Up Festival from 11am – 4pm and I am super excited. I will be offering bunches of single types, as well as mixed bouquets. I’m really hoping that my sunflowers decide to bloom on time – that would be literally ideal, and a big pay back from Mother Nature for that hail incident….
So, this week is market prep time. A wonderful friend of ours lent a canopy for me to use so we will be cool and shaded, not wilted and faded! So step one is complete, I’m not sure yet how many steps there are, but hey – one is better than none!
